Our Story

A Puppy-Love Story

Our journey into the world of dog breeding began with Levi's search for a good bird dog many years ago. That has since lead us to be the proud parents of many playful labs (Smokey was our first silver lab puppy), cuddly labradoodles, oodles of doodles, & even a charming lagotto romagnalo named Happy.

Each addition brought a unique dynamic to our lives and our business.

A move from the Canadian prairies to the warmth of Arizona was a big step, but our passion came with us. Our dogs flourished in the new environment, and our breeding business continues to expand. Our experiences and knowledge are always growing as we balance the desert heat with our furry companions' well-being.

Also amidst this journey, we've become proud grandparents. Our amazing grandson added another layer of love and laughter to our lives - with hopefully more to come! (*ahem* our kids...)

How do I reserve a Smokey K9 Pup?

Click on "reserve your puppy now" above and fill out the puppy application. Then we will be in touch to make arrangements for a non-refundable deposit. We require a $500 non-refundable deposit to reserve a puppy. We accept cash, Zelle, Venmo, or PayPal. Sorry, NO personal checks. Please do not send money until payment arrangements are made. Puppy picks priority is given in the order each deposit is received. Puppy picks happen between 5 and 6 weeks after puppy personalities start to show. Deposits may be made for a future litter of a specific pair or for a current litter's available puppy. Puppy deposits may be deferred to a later litter no more than 2 times. Smokey K9 reserves the right to first pick of any litter. Balance due in-full before your new puppy leaves our care.

What training should I give my new puppy?

Are Silver Labrador Retriever true Labrador Retrievers?

Yes, all Smokey K9 Silver Lab's genetic test results show 100% Labrador Retriever with the recessive diluted color gene "dd". Link

What type of dog is a Lagotto Romagnolo?

Lagotto Romagnolos have a grand history. They were traditionally Italian hunting dogs, but more recently known for their truffle hunting abilities. They are loyal, affectionate and active dogs.

What is a Lagottadoodle?

A Logottadoodle is the cross between a Lagotto Romagnolo and a Poodle.

What does F1 and F1b mean?

As it relates to Smokey K9:

F1 is a pure bred Lab, Cavalier, or Lagotto or (any pure bred) crossed with a Poodle, making the puppies F1 = 50% of each breed.

F1b is an F1 parent crossed with a pure bred of either breed of their parentage. eg. F1 Labradoodle X Poodle = F1b Labradoodle
